i first saw karla faye on larry king live in 1998, the year she was murdered by the state of texas.
in those days i watched as much tel-e-vision as i possibly could. i even taped cnn while i was at work. i don't remember which event was first but i do remember two clearly.
one.......i was watching a news footage of
armed police officers terror-eye-zing some protestors. the protesters trying to save trees had themselves a sit-in in some office. there were numerous law enforcement officers and the protestors sat on the floor with their hands tied behind their backs waiting for their turn to receive mace directly in their eyes.
yes directly in their eyes. one armed officer held a
protesters eye lid open as another sprayed, remember the person being sprayed had his or her hands tied behind their backs.
i was horrified.
i never saw a follow up on that story which horrified me even more as there was no public outcry at such in-humane treatment of our fellow citizens. i wonder how many of those people can use their eyes today. can u imagine the horror of such treatment when all u wanted to do was keep big buisnesses from putting our forests on the endangered species list.
these people had no weapons that i could see nor did i see any resistance towards the police. about the same time i see karla faye tucker brown on larry king live and the moment i saw her eyes i knew she had something i had been looking for all my life and her words were spoken in wisdom. if i can find the transcript for that larry king live show i'll bring it here in case you missed the oppertunity to hear her speak live via satalite.
here is an excerpt from wikipedia concerning our presidents ridicule of her request to have her sentance changed to life in prison........such a shame too that she was denied.

In the weeks before the execution, Bush says, a number of protesters came to Austin to demand clemency for Karla Faye Tucker. "Did you meet with any of them?" I ask. Bush whips around and stares at me. "No, I didn't meet with any of them," he snaps, as though I've just asked the dumbest, most offensive question ever posed. "I didn't meet with Larry King either when he came down for it. I watched his interview with Tucker, though. He asked her real difficult questions like, 'What would you say to Governor Bush?'" "What was her answer?" I wonder. "'Please,'" Bush whimpers, his lips pursed in mock desperation, "'don't kill me.'" I must look shocked ridiculing the pleas of a condemned prisoner who has since been executed seems odd and cruel because he immediately stops smirking.
